In The State of Intelligent Information Management: Getting Ahead of the Digital Transformation Curve and in GDPR after the Deadline: Progress, But a Long Way to Go, AIIM began an examination of one of the four key IIM practice areas — Automating Compliance and Governance.
That research revealed that 51% of organizations say they are planning to spend “more” or “a lot more” on information governance (records management and digital preservation) in the next 18-24 months. But this isn’t spending as usual. This key group of spenders also plans to invest in analytics and machine learning capabilities to automate key information governance and security processes.
These organizations are also thinking about “information governance” with a much wider lens than ever before, and the lines between structured information (data) and unstructured information (content and documents) are disappearing. In this survey, we explore how the environment in which organizations are looking at Information Governance is changing:
- Traditional approaches to managing governance and compliance are failing to address the rising tide of information.
- There has been a migration — and at times a revolution — in how organizations think about unstructured information, the cloud, and automated systems.
- Organizations need to move the conversation about Information Governance to higher ground.
- Organizations seek to make their compliance efforts more cost-effective and valuable by embracing technologies and approaches that automate governance and compliance.
