What is Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS)?
Ransomware as a Service (RaaS) is a business model in which cybercriminals use ransomware software as a service to other cyber attackers. This model operates similarly to legitimate Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms, offering user-friendly interfaces and support to enable even those with limited technical skills to launch ransomware attacks. RaaS providers develop and maintain the ransomware, handle payment processing, and often offer customer support to their criminal clients. In return, they take a percentage of the ransom payments collected. This model has significantly lowered the barrier to entry for cybercriminals, leading to an increase in ransomware attacks. Organizations can mitigate the risk of RaaS attacks by implementing strong cybersecurity measures, such as regular data backups, employee training, and robust network security protocols.
