As engineers design new components and systems for vehicles, design and manufacturing process information could be easily shared outside the company with competitors. Employees may leave the company and take this intellectual property with them as they start a new job. This cost the company a lot of money as proprietary information walks out the door. The company wanted to protect CAD drawings in a PLM system, Office documents stored in numerous locations and process information stored in a knowledge management system from accidentally or deliberately leaving the company. Access to the information in these documents and systems should be controlled and all possible ways of sharing, such as copying, printing or taking a screen shot, should be blocked or limited. File access and permission controls were needed to limit what an authorized user could do when a file was open.
The Company implemented Fasoo EDRM to encrypt Catia CAD files and other documents with sensitive intellectual property and automatically assign permissions to a limited group of users. Security policies control user access to the files and can limit the ability to View, Edit, Print or take a Screen Capture. Security policies automatically apply to file derivatives, so if an engineer saves a CAD drawing as a PDF or another file format, the new file inherits the security of the original file. Fasoo Smart Print and Fasoo Smart Screen apply print or screen watermarks with user information to sensitive files to discourage theft by printing or taking a picture of a screen. As users run reports from the knowledge management system, Fasoo automatically encrypts them as they are downloaded. This protects the company’s intellectual property regardless of location. Engineers in locations around the world can safely share design files and information without impact to their productivity. Security is dynamic so as user roles change, file permissions are automatically adjusted.
