Middle Eastern Banks Need to Comply with New Data Protection Laws (DPL)

Challenges

A large bank in the Middle East needs to comply with its country’s new Data Protection Law (DPL). The new law governs how personal data is collected, used, and protected. It gives individuals rights over their data, and requires organizations to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO). The bank currently does not have a security application in place that can identify, classify, and protect the sensitive data it has. Regulators give the bank a window of time to implement a solution before imposing fines.

Solutions

Data discovery and classification are the first steps to securing all sensitive data stored within the banks systems. Once identified, the bank will need to encrypt and trace all sensitive files. This allows it to meet regulatory requirements and ensure all data is protected and only authorized Data Protection Officers (DPO) can access the sensitive data.
Fasoo can define sensitivity level by matching patterns, dictionary terms, regular expressions, and context to identify the files with sensitive information in real-time. It can also detect obsolete and redundant files to reduce unneeded data inventory. DPOs can view detected files in a centralized console to understand the risk and determine file disposition. Once identified, the bank can choose to automatically classify files that have sensitive information by adding metadata and encrypting them based on their level of sensitivity and classification.
DPOs can apply dynamic security policies to the encrypted files that govern who can access the files and if the user can view, edit, print, share or copy data from the file. The bank can also audit file access to demonstrate compliance with internal policies, customer requirements and government mandates.
