Agentic AI
Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems designed to operate autonomously, making decisions, setting goals, and taking actions on their own. Unlike passive AI, which simply responds to commands or analyzes data, agentic AI proactively engages in tasks, often simulating forms of intention or purpose. This type of AI is capable of interacting with its environment, learning from those interactions, and adjusting its strategies to accomplish defined objectives with minimal human intervention. The goal is to create AI that can perform complex, adaptive roles, potentially collaborating with or substituting for humans in various tasks.
Agentic AI vs. Generative AI
While Agentic AI aims at autonomous task completion and decision-making, Generative AI (GenAI) specializes in content creation and innovation. Agentic AI interacts with its environment in real-time, adapting to new information and making decisions to achieve specific objectives. Generative AI produces new content based on learned data patterns, without real-time interaction or decision-making capabilities. Agentic AI is suitable for automating complex workflows, managing supply chains, or operating autonomous vehicles, whereas Generative AI is ideal for generating marketing copy, designing graphics, composing music, or writing code. Both Agentic AI and Generative AI leverage advanced algorithms and models, but Agentic AI is characterized by its autonomy and decision-making capabilities, and Generative AI is distinguished by its content creation abilities.
